Our 3-year-olds enjoy a bright, well-planned room designed to spark curiosity, imagination and independence. The space is divided into engaging areas that children can freely explore, including:

• Home role-play area with a bed, kitchen and “living room” where children develop social skills, language and imagination.

• Sensory/quiet den offering a calm retreat for children to relax, self-regulate or enjoy sensory exploration.

• Ball pit and sand pit to support physical development, coordination and sensory play.

• Writing area to encourage early mark-making, creativity and pre-literacy skills.

• Messy play zone for painting, crafting and experimenting with textures.

• Construction area for building, problem-solving and imaginative design.

 

Children have the freedom to move between these areas during free play, while also taking part in carefully planned adult-led activities such as cooking, investigations, small group work and creative projects. Each day also includes quieter moments for story and circle times, balanced with free-flow outdoor play in our private garden.

 

We follow the key-person approach to ensure every child feels secure and supported. Learning and progress are captured in each child’s secure electronic folder (online learning journal), which includes photos, observations and examples of their work. This allows us to celebrate achievements, monitor development and plan meaningful next steps in partnership with families.

 

Daily routines in the 3-year-old group include:

 

• Free play and choice time, encouraging independence and decision-making.

• Snack time, promoting healthy eating and social skills.

• Toilet and self-care routines, supporting growing independence.

• Structured, planned activities such as cooking, investigations and mark-making.

• Outdoor play, developing physical skills, curiosity and confidence.
